No Tuesday Lab for Crew 3 on 10/06/20

Crew 3 Martell Flight Report for 10/05/20:

Week 6 was a bit of a week off for Crew 3. Our only task was to fly both Martell flight plots once without going to a class location on Tuesday morning. Our schedules conflicted so we chose Monday afternoon because it was the only time we were all available. The NW plot was flown first due to the shorter length, taking the stress of battery life off. This flight was successful and data was collected completely. Our flight of the NE plot was successful as well, but the data collection was not. Between flights, we made a mistake. We pressed the session button on the PPK without holding once then pressed and held it as a second action. This completely ruined the flight and we didn’t even know it. No data was collected at all, and unfortunately this was discovered back in the lab during data processing. Two of us made plans to go back and redo the data collection on Friday but because each crew was flying during week 6, it was deemed unnecessary. During our flights in week 8, we made sure that we did not make the same mistake and had the added benefit of new checklists specifically stating that the red light on the PPK should not be on - a sign of the error we made.

Below are two images of the Martell forest plots we fly each week. The NE plot shows a green dot on the eastern edge where the flight plan begins, and the NW plot shows a red dot on the western edge where its plan ends.
